May in Macao: a symphony of culture and heritage
Discover the city's blend of tradition and modern spectacle
As May unfolds, Macao is a dynamic stage for contemporary artistic expression as well as tradition. One of its gems, the 35th Macao Arts Festival (until May 31st), continues throughout this month.
For enthralling Chinese tradition, witness the Feast of the Drunken Dragon (May 5th) and the Tam Kong Festival (May 3rd-7th). For a different perspective on the city, there's the solemn Procession of Our Lady of Fátima (May 13th), with the local version a testament to Macao's Western as well as Eastern cultural heritage.
The 2025 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races (May 24th, 25th and 31st) promise adrenaline-fuelled action at Nam Van Lake. For a more tranquil waterside experience, Hanfu Island Tour – A Coastal Journey Through Ancient Charm (May 11th, 18th and 25th) presents a mix of cultural heritage and scenic exploration.
Families and youngsters in particular can enjoy the Disney's "Frozen in Concert" Film with Live Orchestra (May 31st – Jun 1st), a magical conclusion to May's cultural festivities.

As summer approaches, Macao's events scene also heats up, with a heady mix of cultural festivities, live performances, and arts presentations.
One of the month's highlights, the Feast of Na Tcha (Jun 13th) marks one of Macao's most distinctive cultural traditions, with ancient rituals and folk festivities dedicated to this Taoist deity believed to protect children. The next day, the Procession of St. Anthony (Jun 14th) honours one of the city's most revered saints among the Catholic pantheon.
For music lovers, the stage is set for unforgettable performances. The Macao Orchestra presents "The Infinite Titan" (Jun 7th), a concert where principal conductor Lio Kuokman takes on double duty – performing Ravel's Piano Concerto in G on the piano, and conducting the orchestra in Mahler's Symphony No. 1 in D Major, "Titan". Mid-month, the Macao Chinese Orchestra will enchant audiences with the Special Concert of Wind Instruments "Whispers of the Wind" (Jun 14th).
And that's just some of the treats. As Macao celebrates its status as a "Culture City of East Asia" in 2025, an exciting lineup of events is promised throughout June. Don't miss your chance to be part of it!
