The island of Coloane used to be just a little fishing village, with fishing boats bringing home fresh marine products every day. However, as time goes by, its role as a fishing village faded. It has only a few marine product dealers remaining in business nowadays. Among them is the fifty-year-old Lane de Peixe Ieng Lei, which is located at a seaside stilt house in the downtown of Coloane.

Lane de Peixe Ieng Lei has been insisting on offering self-made products over the years. It has an outdoor drying area to control the dryness and quality of products, which can be kept for a relatively longer period of time. Lane de Peixe Ieng Lei has been attracting customers from the Mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, as well as local customers with its full range of products. It specializes in salted fishes like yellow croaker, threadfin, mackerel and white herring; over 20 varieties of fish maw from North America, South America, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, the Mainland and Macao, etc. There are also over thirty types of dried marine products such as shark’s fin, dried scallops, oyster sauce, shrimp paste, shrimp block and dried shrimps. Although the scene of flocks of fishing boats is no longer seen at Rua dos Navegantes, the strong neighbourhood bonding remains. Lane de Peixe Ieng Lei often offers discounts to reward its long-time neighbour customers.
